Hello!
When building this old version of Haskell on Mac OS X 10.5.8 (Leopard), PPC, the build process ends here:
/opt/local/var/macports/build/_opt_local_var_macports_sources_lil.fr.rsync.macports.org_release_ports_lang_ghc/work/ghc-6.10.4/ghc/stage1-inplace/ghc -H32m -O -L/opt/local/var/macports/build/_opt_local_var_macports_sources_lil.fr.rsync.macports.org_release_ports_lang_ghc/work/ghc-6.10.4/libffi -I/opt/local/include -L/opt/local/lib -optc-O2 -I../includes -I. -Iparallel -Ism -DCOMPILING_RTS -package-name rts -static -I/opt/local/include -I../gmp/gmpbuild -I../libffi/build/include -I. -dcmm-lint -c Apply.cmm -o Apply.o
make[1]: *** [Apply.o] Segmentation fault (core dumped)
make: *** [stage1] Error 2
shell command " cd "/opt/local/var/macports/build/_opt_local_var_macports_sources_lil.fr.rsync.macports.org_release_ports_lang_ghc/work/ghc-6.10.4" && /usr/bin/make all " returned error 2
Packages installed are:
gmp 5.0.2
autoconf 2.6.3
perl 5.8.9
libiconv 1.13.1
ncurses 5.9
ncursesw 5.8
make is 3.81, the GNU Compiler Collections used are 4.0.1 and 4.2.1. The archives used are: ghc-6.10.4-src.tar.bz2, ghc-6.10.4-src-extralibs.tar.bz2, testsuite-6.10.4.tar.bz2, ghc-6.10.1-darwin-ppc-leopard-bootstrap.tar.bz2. Their checksums were OK.
Other users of the MacPorts packages system for Mac OS X have reported similar failures: https://trac.macports.org/ticket/26550, https://trac.macports.org/ticket/26550.
As a MacPorts user I have to use what the maintainers provide. Anyway, with the Fink packages manager I'll try to build Haskell 7.0.4! (And see how it works with LLVM.)
