web page direct me to a tarball that can't build
I started here: http://hackage.haskell.org/trac/ghc/wiki/Building . Then I followed the link to "Getting the sources" and read the "Source distributions" section of this page: http://hackage.haskell.org/trac/ghc/wiki/Building/GettingTheSources , then followed the link to http://www.haskell.org/ghc/download.html and then downloaded a tarball named http://www.haskell.org/ghc/dist/current/dist/ghc-6.11.20090617-src.tar.bz2 . This tarball doesn't have all the ingredients necessary to follow the instructions on the first page (wiki/Building). Some kind passerby took pity on me and directed me to download this tarball instead: http://darcs.haskell.org/ghc-HEAD-2009-05-16-ghc-corelibs-testsuite.tar.bz2 . That one worked better. Perhaps the "Source distributions" section of http://hackage.haskell.org/trac/ghc/wiki/Building/GettingTheSources should point to that one instead.
